| I recently requested BARCS' (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter) wishlist so that I could donate some items for the shelter this holiday season. I was surprised to discover that they are using choke collars (choke chains) on the shelter dogs. When I inquired as to why, I was told apologetically, that it was unfortunately due to the higher cost of an alternative collar. As all of my clients already know, I abhor the idea of a tool or technique that uses force, pain or intimidation on a dog (or on a human, for that matter)! These dogs have been through enough and shouldn't have to be put through any more stress than they already under. Therefore, I am now on an impassioned mission to come up with enough money to replace all of BARCS choke collars with vinyl no-slip collars. (The dogs need a collar that they can't back out of, and a no-slip is collar is a much gentler alternative to the choker). BARCS current need is for about 800 collars annually. I've been in contact with a manufacturer of no-slip collars and they are going to extend me their wholesaler discount. I am working on getting an even deeper discount, which is still in the works. As of right now, the cost is $3.19-$4.52 per collar depending on size. If you would like to donate any amount of money, please send a check to You Silly Dog, 4412-E LaPlata Ave, Baltimore MD 21211. Once I have a good amount, I will be placing a bulk order for collars. I hope to be able to do this in time for the holidays this year. Thank you everyone for your kind consideration! Refrain from pain, please train humane!
